Summer is Over Already?

It's true, it has been a while since I posted last. It's been four months in fact. It has been a fairly uneventful summer, so it's not that I didn't have any time to post, I just got pretty lazy I guess.

The summer has gone by pretty quickly, but then again the whole year has. It's amazing to think that it is already the middle of August. How in the world did that sneak up on me so fast?

Life is pretty much the same and unchanged since my last post except for the fact that I'm moving in a week. I'm moving out of Branbury to a house in Pleasant Grove with some buddies. It's a pretty sweet place and we're getting it at a really good price.

That's really about it for now, I will try to write on here more soon.

I ain't lookin' to compete with you,
Beat or cheat or mistreat you,
Simplify you, classify you,
Deny, defy or crucify you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you,
Frighten you or uptighten you,
Drag you down or drain you down,
Chain you down or bring you down.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I ain't lookin' to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to straight-face you,
Race or chase you, track or trace you,
Or disgrace you or displace you,
Or define you or confine you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to meet your kin,
Make you spin or do you in,
Or select you or dissect you,
Or inspect you or reject you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to fake you out,
Take or shake or forsake you out,
I ain't lookin' for you to feel like me,
See like me or be like me.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

New Touch Home Screen

I have been messing around quite a bit with my phone ever since I got it and I recently found a program that allows me to change the look of the home screen. I made a few subtle changes and I think it looks better this way.

Yay HTC Touch!

It pretty much rocks my face off!

My New Phone

I have been intrigued by the HTC Touch/Vogue ever since I heard that Sprint was going to pick it up. I have been researching it for many months now and have finally decided, with the help of a fatty tax return, to buy one and give it a shot.

I've only had it a week and I'm still getting used to it. I will post pictured now and probably write a review at a later date.

Go Pens Go!

As many of you know, I am a huge hockey fan. I can't get enough of the game. While I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up in a school that had a team, I did have a professional team in my city which I grew to love. I am, of course, speaking of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I will not go into the history of the franchise or how Mario Lemieux is clearly better than Wayne Gretzky, but I will speak of my pride in the Penguins as my team.

It has been a crazy season with some ups and downs but the Pens have fought through it. Sidney Crosby, who was sidelined with a high ankle sprain for 28 games, was the main injury to occur this season, but upon seeing his fearless captain injured, Evgeni Malkin rose to the occasion. Malkin began to take charge of his team and began to find the net. He was able to rally the Pens and come out of those 28 games a whole new and more united team.

The Penguins kept winning games during Crosby's injury and were able to stay in the top three of the Atlantic Division, battling between 1st and 2nd for the majority of the time. Then something happened within the team, some burning desire began to form. On 12 March, the Pens played the Sabres and gave the fans something that they haven't seen in quite a while... A slaughtering. The Pens scored, and scored again, and didn't stop scoring until they had beaten the Sabres 7-3. They must have liked the feeling so much that they went on to beat the Flyers in their next game 7-1 making a two game scoring tally of 14-4.

The real fun happened when they clinched a playoff spot by beating the Devils, who's record was tied with the Pens at the time. The Penguins showed that they are a not a team to underestimate by taking a second 7-1 win within a weeks time. By beating the Devils, the Pens clinched a playoff spot and also took over 1st place in the Atlantic division, two points ahead of New Jersey. They grew that lead three days later by beating the Devils 2-0, but this time they did it on the road.

The Pens saw the return of their leader and captain Sidney Crosby on Thursday, 27 March against the New York Islanders. They were 1st in the division having been four points ahead of second place New Jersey but also one point behind the Montreal Canadiens for first place in the Eastern Conference. With a determination in their eyes to stay ahead of Jersey and to become the best in their conference, the Pens put on a stunning performance and sent the Islanders home with their tails between their legs. The Pens won it 3-1 while the Devils lost to the Rangers on the same night.

The Penguins increased their lead in the division to six points while becoming the leaders of the Eastern Conference by one point over Montreal, who plays tonight (Friday, 28 March).
With four games left in the regular season, all of which are division games, the Penguins will need to continue playing tough hockey or still have a chance to drop from 1st. If they continue to play as they have been, this could be a fun playoffs to watch for any Penguins fan. Regardless, I'll be wearing my black and gold... Will you?

26 March 2008

It's been a while.

Well it has been a while since I've posted so here it goes.
I have had a lot on my mind as I have been mindlessly following the daily grind that is my life.

I went home to visit my family in Pennsylvania this month, from the 11th until the 18th, and realized how much I miss everyone back home. When I returned to Utah I felt like there was a giant gaping hole in my chest where my heart was viciously torn out and thrown to the rabid wolves. It reminded me of when I first moved here. I remember standing alone in my cousin's kitchen as I watched my parents, sister, brother-in-law and nephew drive up that canyon on route 6 leaving Spanish Fork. I felt a nagging sense of emptiness and sadness because for the first time in my life I was truly alone. Those feelings eventually passed and I numbingly went about my business, unaware that I had simply harbored them deep within myself.

When I made it back to Pittsburgh, I had a great time with my family. I got to see my grandparents, my parents, my siblings and of course my nephew Hayden. Though Hayden was acting shy at the airport, he had pretty much warmed back up to me by the end of the week.

So I have been doing a lot of thinking since I've been back in Utah. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do with myself. Should I stay here and go to school or move back home this fall and finish all of my core classes at the community college and then move on again? I just don't know.

I guess if I did the latter I would only be postponing leaving my family since school is more expensive in Pennsylvania and I would probably end up moving away again.

Well this is just a bunch of random thoughts that are bouncing around in my head right now. I know that none of it really makes any sense, but it does to me.

Norwegian Recycling

If any of you actually know me, you'll know that my taste in music is about as diverse as it gets. One of my favourite musical genres is electronica. This includes dance, house, trance, breaks and techno. One of my favourite things about break beat music is when artists do mash-ups. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term "mash-up", it is a song created out of pieces of two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another.

One of the most infamous mash-up albums of all time was DJ Danger Mouse's critically acclaimed remix project The Grey Album. This album was dubbed The Grey Album because it was comprised of an a cappella version of rapper Jay-Z's The Black Album laid over various instrumental tracks from The Beatles The White Album. While immensely popular, The Grey Album was subject of controversy as EMI, copyright holder of The Beatles, ordered Danger Mouse to cease its distribution, as he never had permission to use The Beatles' material. This, however, did not stop the spread of the album via the Internet. The damage had been done, and a new genre was created within the mash-up community, the Bootleg Mash-up, or Bastard Pop.

I didn't intend to speak that much about Danger Mouse, but he had a huge influence on the mash-up world... Moving on...

The artist that I really want to talk about today simply goes by the name Norwegian Recycling.

Peter Bull, better known as Norwegian Recycling, is a Pop/Mash-up artist who hails from Aalesund, Norway. He is an extremely talented mash-up artist who is becoming somewhat of an Internet sensation. Peter focuses mostly on Pop and Hip Hop/Rap music in his remixes, which are all available free of charge at his website, which I will provide at the end of this blog. His mixes are flawless and consistently fresh as he continues to give his fans what they want to hear on a regular basis.

Norwegian Recycling can be found on Facebook, Myspace, YouTube and at his own website. All of his music is distributed for free on these sites, and his videos are available to view on YouTube.

Please check out his sites and support his efforts, he deserves it.
